The metagame (or meta) is the set of decks people are actually playing. Reading it well is one of the biggest skill jumps you can make.

Three questions to ask

  1. What's most popular? These are the decks you'll face most often.
  2. What's winning? Popular and successful aren't always the same.
  3. What beats the winners? That's often where the best-positioned deck lives.

Reading results

  • Look at Day 2 / Top 32 conversion rates, not just who won.
  • Compare list changes week over week; tech choices tell you what players fear.
  • Consider your local meta: your league may look nothing like a Regional.
